Nudge vs Chaser: Invoice Reminder Tools Compared

Search "invoice reminder software" and Chaser shows up everywhere. Over 10,000 users worldwide, a 4.9 out of 5 on Capterra, founded in London in 2013. Then you see the price. Chaser's cheapest US plan starts at $259 a month. Nudge costs $9.99.

At $259, Chaser's Compact plan costs as much as 25 months of Nudge Basic. Chaser was built in London for B2B finance teams, with credit checks, revenue forecasting, payer ratings, and dedicated AR specialists. Nudge is a US mobile app for contractors and freelancers that sends up to 9 scheduled SMS and email reminders per invoice over a 67-day window. Nudge Basic covers up to 100 active customers at $9.99 a month. Chaser's Compact plan is scoped to businesses with under $5 million in annual revenue and costs $259 a month at that threshold.

What each tool actually does

Nudge is an invoice reminder app. You add an invoice once and it automatically follows up with up to 9 SMS and email reminders that stop when the invoice is marked paid. It runs on web, Android, and iOS, works standalone or syncs with QuickBooks, and targets US contractors and freelancers specifically. Adding an invoice and scheduling reminders takes a few taps, with no accounting system connection required.

Chaser is accounts receivable automation software for finance teams. Beyond payment reminders, it handles credit checking, late payment prediction, revenue forecasting, debt collection, and payment portals. It integrates with Xero, QuickBooks, and other accounting systems via two-way API. Its users are B2B companies with dedicated accounts receivable staff. The Compact plan ships with 4 automated receivables workflows, 30 follow-up templates, and 4 user seats to configure before the first reminder goes out.

Pricing side by side

Chaser's Compact plan is scoped to businesses with under $5 million in annual revenue. The Core plan at $779 a month adds unlimited users and unlimited workflows. The Complete plan at $1,169 a month adds a dedicated account manager, priority support, and receivables forecasting.

Chaser also offers a Care add-on from $447 a month that includes a dedicated AR specialist for phone calls, inbox management, and dispute resolution. Nudge has no dispute resolution or phone follow-up feature. Those services are outside the scope of a $9.99/month reminder tool.

Reminder channels and volume

Both tools send reminders via SMS and email. Chaser also sends automated phone calls and physical letters, channels designed for B2B collections where you are contacting a company's accounts payable department.

Nudge sends up to 9 reminders per invoice, and the messages escalate in tone: friendly first, firmer later, final notice last. The default schedule spans 67 days, from a week before the due date through 60 days overdue:

  1. 7 days before due date
  2. 3 days before
  3. 1 day before
  4. On the due date
  5. 3 days overdue
  6. 7 days overdue
  7. 14 days overdue
  8. 30 days overdue
  9. 60 days overdue

Chaser's reminder volume is not capped per invoice. The Compact plan includes 4 automated receivables workflows and 30 follow-up templates to set up before the first reminder fires. Chaser also allows you to segment customers and route different groups through different workflows.

Scheduling and customization

Nudge lets you set different reminder rules for different clients, or exclude someone entirely. A reliable client might only need reminders on the due date and at 7 days overdue, skipping the earlier and later touchpoints. A client with a history of paying late can keep all 9 reminders active, including the 30- and 60-day overdue messages. Each client gets their own schedule.

Chaser lets you segment customers and set reminder schedules based on invoice due dates, sending messages before, on, or after the due date. The Compact plan includes 4 automated receivables workflows, each configurable with its own cadence and templates. A company might route overdue invoices for large accounts through a workflow that adds phone calls at 14 days, while smaller invoices stay on email-only.

QuickBooks users considering either tool should note that QuickBooks sends 3 email reminders on a single shared schedule with no per-client customization. If you have a client who routinely pays on day 45, QuickBooks has no way to set a custom schedule for that client. You would need to remember to follow up manually after the 3 automated emails stop.

Integrations

Nudge works standalone or syncs directly with QuickBooks. No accounting software required.

Chaser integrates with any accounting system via two-way API, including Xero and QuickBooks. Multi-entity support is included on the Core plan and above.

Where Chaser goes further

Chaser's feature set extends well beyond reminders: credit checking on current and future customers, payer ratings, late payment prediction, revenue forecasting, and debt recovery. The Care plan adds a dedicated AR specialist who handles phone calls and dispute resolution on your behalf.

Chaser claims its users get paid 16 days sooner and save 15 hours a week on accounts receivable. Chaser does not specify the invoice volume behind that claim, but 15 hours a week of manual chasing implies a company processing hundreds of invoices monthly. Nudge Basic supports up to 100 active customers and automates the 9 scheduled follow-up touches per invoice. Disputed invoices, payment discrepancies, and non-responsive clients still require manual action regardless of which tool you use.

The cost over a year

A direct cost comparison over 12 months:

Plan Annual cost
Nudge Basic ($9.99/mo) $119.88
Nudge Pro ($19.99/mo) $239.88
Chaser Compact ($259/mo) $3,108
Chaser Core ($779/mo) $9,348
Chaser Complete ($1,169/mo) $14,028
Chaser Care add-on ($447/mo) $5,364

Chaser's 15-hours-per-week savings claim does not specify a labor rate or invoice volume. The $3,108 annual Compact price is designed for companies where AR staff time is a budgeted line item. If your customer count exceeds 100 on Nudge Basic, the Pro plan at $19.99/month removes that limit and includes up to 10,000 SMS per month.

Nudge's 14-day free trial requires no credit card, so a contractor can run the full 9-reminder sequence on a real invoice before paying anything. Related reading: SMS vs email invoice reminders and how to collect payment from clients.
